Late Comeback Falls Short

Late Comeback Falls Short

After trailing by double-digits most of the second half, BRCC rallied within four points in the final minutes before losing 60-53. The loss is the second consecutive home defeat for Baton Rouge, bringing the season record to 5-5.

The Bears were playing from behind from the outset. With twelve minutes to play in the first half, BRCC was struggling to make shots and found themselves trailing 14-7. Over the next six minutes, Marion Military Institute increased their lead with a 10-1 run. The two sides traded baskets to close out the half and BRCC went into halftime down 37-20.

The Bears faced a large deficit for the majority of the second half. It took until the final four minutes of the game for the Bears to face a single digit deficit. By that point they just ran out of time. BRCC was able to cut the lead to four at 55-51, but with only forty-four seconds left in the game they could not get closer.

The fifty-three points scored by Baton Rouge is the lowest offensive output of the season. Erik Thomas and Jermaine Johnson each scored 13 points to lead the way.

Baton Rouge hits the road Monday for a two-day tournament at Mississippi Gulf Coast. BRCC plays the home team on Monday evening at 6:45 pm; they face Faulkner State on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 pm.
