The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins met on the diamond at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium this evening to reschedule an LCCaC game that was rained out earlier in the season. The Dolphins used a few big innings to defeat the Bears 7 to 2.
In the second inning, the Bears loaded the bases when Jackson Martin singled to center field, Kenneth Berard drew a walk, and Brayden Bertucci delivered another single to center field. The Dolphins managed to get another strikeout, and they picked off Bertucci at first base to end the inning, stranding the runners.
The Dolphins scored the first run of the game with a solo home run by AJ Hoffmann, taking an early lead. In the fourth inning, they started with another solo homer from F. Randol. The Dolphins then capitalized on two walks issued by Bears' pitchers and a double by C. Dailey to plate two more runs. After four innings, the Dolphins led the Bears 4-0.
The Bears plated their first run of the game in the fifth inning when Conner Kleinpeter drew a walk and scored on an infield single by Hudson Heltz. In the sixth inning, the Bears added another run but still trailed 4-2. Jackson Martin and Kenneth Berard hit back-to-back singles, and Martin scored on a single up the middle by Conner Kleinpeter.
In the seventh inning, the Dolphins scored three more runs to extend their lead to 7-2 over the Bears. Neither team found success at the plate in the eighth inning, and despite a single from Trent Laporte in the ninth, the Dolphins secured the win with a ground out and two-line outs to end the inning and the Bears' hopes for a comeback. The Dolphins defeated the Bears 7 to 2, opening this four-game series in the Crescent City.
Grant Porche started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, walking 6, and striking out 2. Cole Veronie (3.2 innings) and Klayton Wingfield (1.0 innings) provided relief for the Bears. Conner Achee started on the mound for the Dolphins and earned the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6.
