Bears fall in season finale to #9 LSUE Bengals

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the #9 LSUE Bengals this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field to conclude their four-game conference series. The Bengals utilized a strong hitting performance and the long ball to defeat the Bears 12 to 2, completing a four-game sweep.
The Bears got on the scoreboard first in the first inning, taking an early lead of 1-0. Kenneth Berard led off with a single to left field and was moved to second by a sacrifice bunt from Luke Roger. Trent Laporte then hit a single to left field, bringing Berard across the plate.
The Bengals responded with two runs in the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead over the Bears. LSUE found their rhythm at the plate, leading off the fifth inning with four straight singles. They plated five runs in that inning, extending their lead to 7-1. M. Bordelon led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to left field, and they added another run to increase their lead to 9-1. The Bears managed to score a run in the bottom of the eighth inning but still trailed 9-2. Luke Roger drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored when Trent Laporte reached base on an error.
LSUE capped the game with three additional runs in the top of the ninth, sealing a 12-to-2 victory over the Bears.
Evan McDaniel started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing seven runs on ten hits while walking two and striking out five. Spencer Srubar (2.0 innings) and Jayse Degruy (1.0 inning) pitched in relief. M. Jacobs started on the mound for the Bengals and earned the victory, pitching seven innings while allowing one run on four hits, walking two, and striking out ten. M. Gallien, X. Woods, and D. Hicks provided relief for the Bengals.
LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 15 to 5, with both teams committing two errors.

With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-42 overall and 0-16 in conference play, while the Bengals improved to 36-8 and 13-3 on the season. LSUE leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 83 wins to 16 losses.
