Bears close out regular season with victory at Delgado

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to New Orleans to close out their 2025-2026 regular season schedule against the Delgado Dolphins. This was a heavyweight battle between two teams fighting to keep their chances alive for a conference title. The game ultimately came down to the final two minutes, during which the Bears secured a 74-71 victory from the free throw line.  

In the opening minutes of the first half, neither team could find their offensive rhythm, leading to a low-scoring affair. With 13 minutes left in the half, the score was tied at 13. The Bears managed a small run, but their lead never exceeded three points. The game was once again tied at 18 with nine minutes remaining in the half. The Bears took a six-point lead after Bryson Coleman and Amir Abdul-Rauf scored back-to-back buckets, making it 26-20. The Dolphins then pulled ahead with a basket three minutes before halftime, leading 36-35. However, the Bears closed out the half with a 7-2 run, heading into the locker room with a 42-38 lead.  

The second half mirrored the first, with neither team able to gain a decisive advantage as they exchanged baskets. The Dolphins forced two turnovers, leading to two breakaway dunks that tied the game at 46 with 15 minutes left. Over the next five minutes, there were three ties and three lead changes, with the game tied at 53 with 11 minutes remaining. The Bears fought back, coming within two points at 62-60 thanks to a basket from Jevion Sam with five minutes left. The Bears regained the lead with back-to-back three-pointers from Jevion Sam and Amir Abdul-Rauf with 2:45 remaining, making the score 66-63.  

The Dolphins took a one-point lead after a steal that led to an "and-one" conversion, making it 69-68. However, Amir Abdul-Rauf responded with a three-pointer from the top of the key, giving the Bears a lead they would not relinquish. They then sealed the game from the free throw line, making 3 of 5 attempts to secure the victory at 74-71.  

The Bears were led by Jevion Sam and Amir Abdul-Rauf, who each scored 16 points. Bryce Coleman contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Delgado's Oren Bowens led all scorers with 23 points, and Amir Rios joined him as the only other Dolphin in double figures.  

With this victory, the Bears improved to 14-15 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Dolphins fell to 12-14 and 2-3 on the season. Baton Rouge leads the all-time series against Delgado with 34 wins to 16 losses.  

Bears Highlights

• Bryce Coleman added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
