Coastal Alabama North Defeats BRCC Lady Bears

The Lady Bears would conclude the LSUE Lady Bengals Classic with a 11 to 7 loss to the Coastal Alabama North Lady Eagles.  The Lady Eagles used two big innings to defeat the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears would get on the board first with two runs, in the first inning. Allie Vincent would lead off with a bunt single and later would score on a Haleigh Laylle single to left field. Blayne Pence, who reached on an error, would score on a Hallie Autin sac fly to right field.  The Lady Eagles would respond, in the bottom of the inning, with five runs to take a 5 to 2 lead after one inning. 

Baton Rouge responded with four runs of their own, in the second inning, to take a 6 to 5 lead over Coastal Alabama. The inning started with back to back Lady Bears being hit by a pitch. Allie Vincent would reach on an error and Duhon and Ortiz would score on the play. Blayne Pence would single to left field scoring Vincent, to tie the game at 5. Courtney Ortego would double to left field scoring Pence to take a 6 to 5 lead.  Just like the Lady Bears, the Lady Eagles would not go away as they would score four runs of their own to retake the lead at 9 to 6.

Baton Rouge would score on run in the fifth, when Hallie Autin would double to centerfield, scoring Blayne Pence, who walked. Coastal Alabama North would cap off their scoring with two more runs in the fifth inning to take an 11 to 7 lead and the victory.

Coastal Alabama North out hit Baton Rouge 11 to 7.  The Lady Bears only committed one error compared to four for the Lady Eagles.

Hope Shedd earned the victory for the Lady Eagles, as she pitcher five and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three. Lacey Bonvillain took the loss for the Lady Bears pitching six innings, allowing eleven runs on eleven hits.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Allie Vincent went 1 for 5 with 2 runs.

Blayne Pence went 1 for 4 with 3 runs, 1 RBI and 1 BB

Haleigh Laylle went 2 for 4 with 1RBI

Hallie Autin went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs

Courtney Ortego went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI


The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday February 6 as they travel to Southwest Mississippi Community College to play a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
