Friday February 8, 2019: Softball
Baton Rouge Lady Bears opened up the Pearl River Wildcats Invitational with a loss to the Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers by the final score of 6 to 3.
The MMI Lady Tigers would get on the board first with two runs in the fourth to take an early lead. They would add to their lead with two more runs in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh to take a 6 to 0 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Bears bats finally came alive in the seventh when they would score three runs but it was not enough to overcome the early deficient.
The Lady Bears would start their scoring off when Krystal Stubbs would lead off the seventh with a double to left field. Blayne Pence would single to left field driving in Stubbs for the Lady Bears first run of the game. Haleigh Laylle would single to centerfield and her and Pence would score when Hallie Autin would single to centerfield.
The Lady Bears out hit the Lady Tigers 9 to 5 but four errors on the day for the Lady Bears were their demise. MMI committed one error in the game.
Alex Reed earned the victory for Marion Military. She pitched seven innings allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out 6. Lacey Bonvillain took the loss for the Lady Bears. She pitched seven innings allowing six runs on five hits while striking out five.
Lady Bears Highlights:
Blayne Pence went 3 for 3 with 1 Run,1 RBI and 1 BB
Haleigh Laylle went 1 for 4 with 1 Run
Hallie Autin went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs
Krystal Stubbs went 2 for 3 with 1 Run
The Lady Bears return to action later this afternoon as they will face the LSUE Lady Bengals at 4 pm in their second game of the Wildcats Invitational.
