Lady Bears Softball split with #3 Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the #3 ranked Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves in a rematch of earlier games played in Wesson. The Lady Wolves had previously swept the Lady Bears 11-1 and 8-0 earlier in the season, so the Lady Bears were looking for revenge. The teams ended up splitting the day's doubleheader, with the Lady Bears winning game one 9-8 in extra innings and losing game two 12-2 in five innings.
Game One
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Bears managed to pull together all phases of the game, securing a thrilling 9-8 walk-off victory over the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead, scoring four quick runs. Karley Chaney reached base on a fielder's choice and scored on a line drive by Meaux Carroll to right field. Lindsey Hudson followed with a single to left field, allowing both her and Carroll to score on a triple by Kyla Ashford. Lanie Eschette capped off the scoring in the first inning with a single to left field that brought Ashford home, making it 4-0.
The Lady Bears added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning, bringing the score to 5-0. Addysen Thornton led off with a single and scored on another single from Lindsey Hudson.
The Lady Wolves responded with two runs in the top of the third inning, one of which came from a home run by B. Phillips, narrowing the score to 5-2. They continued to close the gap, as M. Chisolm hit a two-run homer to center field, reducing the deficit to 5-4.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Bears extended their lead to 7-4. Kyla Ashford led off with a single to right field, scoring on a single to center field by Kinley Meche. Lanie Eschette then reached base on a double, which allowed Karley Chaney to walk with the bases loaded, adding another run.
However, the Lady Wolves fought back, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 7. Emily Camacho managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh, ensuring no runs were scored for the Lady Wolves. The Lady Bears were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, forcing extra innings.
With a base runner placed at second to start the extra inning, the Lady Wolves hit a sacrifice bunt to move her to third, and a single by B. Phillips drove the run home, giving the Lady Wolves an 8-7 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Miley Percle was placed at second base. Karley Chaney reached base on an error, putting runners on the corners for the Lady Bears. Lindsey Hudson then hit a single to left field, scoring Percle and advancing Chaney to third. Meaux Carroll drew a walk to load the bases, and Kyla Ashford hit a sacrifice fly to score Chaney, sealing the 9-8 victory for the Lady Bears.
Madelyn Nolen started on the mound for the Lady Bears, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing 7 runs on 8 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2. Emily Camacho pitched in relief and was credited with the victory, going 2.1 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 2 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Ava Browder started for the Lady Wolves, pitching 0.1 innings and allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, walking 1. A. Lindley was charged with the loss for the Lady Wolves.
Baton Rouge outhit Copiah Lincoln 13-11, while the Lady Wolves were credited with 3 errors.

Game Two
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves showcased their offensive prowess, defeating the Baton Rouge Lady Bears 12-2 in just five innings.
Copiah Lincoln quickly established control of the game, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Baton Rouge managed to get on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lanie Eschette singled to left field and scored on a triple by Kinley Meche. Meche then scored on a ground out by Jardyn Wheeler, bringing the Lady Bears' total to two runs in the inning. COLIN added two more runs in the top of the fifth, securing a 12-2 victory thanks to the five-inning run rule.
Abbey Borel started on the mound for the Lady Bears and was credited with the loss, pitching one inning and allowing six runs on five hits while walking two and striking out one. Kailey Dwyer and Emily Camacho provided relief for Baton Rouge. A. Lindley earned the win for the Lady Wolves, pitching two innings with no runs, one hit, two walks, and one strikeout.
Copiah Lincoln out-hit Baton Rouge 9 to 7, with both teams committing one error. COLIN hit two home runs during the game.

With this split, the Lady Bears improved their record to 7-17, while the Lady Wolves enhanced their record to 13-2. Copiah Lincoln leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 30 wins to 5 losses.
Next Up
The Lady Bears will travel to Raymond, Mississippi, this Tuesday, March 3, to face the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles. The doubleheader will start at 2 PM at Rene Warren Field.
