Lady Bears split with LBW Saints

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Alabama to take on the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Saints in a doubleheader. It was a mixed day for the Lady Bears, as they dropped game one 4-0 but won game two 5-3.
Game One
In the first game, the Saints held the Lady Bears scoreless, using two strong innings to secure a 4-0 victory. The Saints struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead. They added three more runs in the bottom of the third, taking a commanding 4-0 lead. That would be all the offense the Saints needed, as neither team was able to generate momentum at the plate afterward.
Madelyn Nolen started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Kailey Dwyer then pitched 3.2 innings in relief. H. Morrison pitched a complete game victory for the Saints, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3 over 7 innings. The Saints outhit the Lady Bears 6 to 3; Baton Rouge made one error compared to three for Lurleen B. Wallace.

Game Two
In game two, the Lady Bears broke out of their slump at the plate, aided by a strong pitching performance from Abbey Borel, and won 5-3.
The Lady Bears got on the board first with an early run in the first inning. Raievah Craddock hit a single up the middle and scored on a double by Lindsey Hudson. The Saints answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. For the next three innings, both teams struggled offensively as the pitchers dominated.
The Lady Bears broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Kinley Meche led off with a double to right field, then scored when Lanie Eschette hit a single to center. Miley Percle followed with a single to right, driving in Eschette. Raievah Craddock kept the rally going with an infield single. Lindsey Hudson grounded out, moving both runners up a base. Meaux Carroll then hit a single to right, scoring Percle, and Craddock stole home to cap the Lady Bears' four-run inning.
The Saints managed to add a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough, and the Lady Bears secured the 5-3 victory behind Abbey Borel's impressive eight strikeouts. Borel pitched a complete game, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. R. Kitrell started for the Saints and took the loss, pitching 4 innings and allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk. T. Price pitched 3 innings in relief for the Saints. Both teams had one error in the game.

With the split, the Lady Bears improved their record to 12-20, while the Saints improved to 4-26. The all-time series remains tied, with both teams having two victories each.

The Lady Bears will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, on Tuesday, March 24, to take on UA Rich Mountain in a pair of games at Centenary College of Louisiana.
