Lady Bears swept by #8 Lady Bengals in Eunice

Eunice, LA  

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the #8 LSUE Lady Bengals today in an evening doubleheader on the diamond in Cajun Prairie. It was a pair of games marked by spurts and big innings, which ultimately led to the Lady Bengals sweeping the Lady Bears, winning 15-7 and 10-1 in five innings.  

Game One 

The Lady Bengals rallied late to defeat the Lady Bears 15-7 in the first game of the doubleheader.  

The Lady Bears struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Miley Percle led off with a walk and scored on a triple by Raievah Craddock, who then crossed the plate on a single by Lindsey Hudson. The Lady Bengals responded with a run in the bottom of the first but still trailed 2-1.  

In the top of the second, the Lady Bears added four more runs, extending their lead to 6-1. Addysen Thornton hit a single to right field, and Miley Percle reached base on an error. Raievah Craddock then hit an infield single to load the bases. Kinley Meche stepped up and hit a grand slam over the centerfield wall to clear the bases.  

The Lady Bengals took advantage of a Lady Bears error and a walk to score one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, narrowing the gap to 6-3 after four innings of play.  

The Lady Bears then added another run in the top of the fifth. Karley Chaney reached base on an error, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kyla Ashford, and then scored on another error by the Lady Bengals' shortstop, making it 7-3.  

In a dramatic turn of events, the Lady Bengals tied the game at seven with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. P. Prince hit a solo home run to left field, and the Lady Bengals capitalized on additional errors by the Bears to find timely hits and score the remaining three runs.  

At the end of five innings, the scoreboard showed the Lady Bengals and Lady Bears tied at seven runs each. The Lady Bengals dominated the sixth inning, scoring eight runs, including a grand slam by J. Stanley to walk off with a 15-7 victory over the Lady Bears after six innings.  

Abbey Borel started in the circle for the Lady Bears and received the loss, pitching 5 innings and allowing 12 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits while walking 5 and striking out 3. Emily Camacho pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. E. Rachal started for the Lady Bengals, going 1.2 innings and giving up 6 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while walking 1. A. Kordish pitched in relief for the Lady Bengals and earned the victory, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 6 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.  

The Lady Bears outhit the Lady Bengals 13 to 10, but committed 4 errors compared to 3 for the Lady Bengals.  

Lady Bears Highlights  

  • Kinley Meche: 2 for 3 with 1 run, 4 RBIs, and 1 grand slam  

 

Game Two 

The Lady Bengals used a big fourth-inning offensive surge, combined with several fielding errors by the Lady Bears, to defeat the Lady Bears 10-1 in five innings. 

In the top of the first inning, the Lady Bears loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Miley Percle and Raievah Craddock, along with a walk from Kinley Meche with one out. However, the Lady Bears grounded into a double play to end the inning and their scoring threat. 

The Lady Bengals scored first, taking an early lead with a run in the first inning. They capitalized on two Lady Bears' errors and a timely hit to bring a runner home. 

In the top of the second inning, the Lady Bears tied the game at one. Lanie Eschette hit a single down the third-base line, while Karley Chaney reached on an error. Lauren Landrum then singled to load the bases, and Miley Percle followed with a single to left field, plating Chaney for the Lady Bears' first run. The Lady Bengals managed to escape the bases-loaded jam with a fly out followed by a ground out. 

The Lady Bengals regained the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs and extending their advantage to 4-1. They added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing the score to 10-1. The Lady Bears failed to respond, going down in order for a final score of 10-1. 

Madelyn Nolen started on the mound for the Lady Bears and took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits while walking two batters. Emily Camacho pitched no innings and Abbey Borel pitched one inning in relief for the Lady Bears. A. Miller started for the Lady Bengals and earned the win, pitching four innings while allowing one run (none earned) on seven hits and walking three. E. Savage pitched in relief for the Lady Bengals. 

The Lady Bears were outhit by LSUE, 12 to 7, and committed two errors compared to one for the Lady Bengals. 

Lady Bears Highlights: 

With the pair of losses, the Lady Bears fall to 16-30 for the season, while the Lady Bengals improve to 32-13. LSUE leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 61 wins and 3 losses. 

Up Next: 

The Lady Bears will travel to Perkinston, Mississippi, this Saturday, April 18, to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 3 PM.
