Lady Bears close out season with pair of losses to #8 LSUE

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears concluded their season this afternoon with a doubleheader against the #8 LSUE Lady Bengals at Hartley Vey Sports Complex - Oak Villa. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears struggled to contain the consistent offense of the Lady Bengals, losing both games 7-0 and 8-5.
Game One
A strong second inning propelled the Lady Bengals to a 7-0 victory over the Lady Bears in the first game of the day. The Lady Bengals scored six runs in the top of the second inning, taking an early lead. They added another run in the top of the fourth, solidifying their 7-0 advantage.
Abbey Borel started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss, pitching 1.0 innings and allowing 6 runs on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Emily Camacho came in as relief. Meanwhile, Kordish started for the Lady Bengals and earned the victory, pitching 2 innings without allowing any runs and striking out 3 batters. E. Rachel and M. Galvan provided relief for the Bengals.
LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 4.

Game Two
The Lady Bears again faced a formidable offense as the Lady Bengals scored in four of their seven opportunities, securing an 8-5 win in the second game. The Bengals took an early lead with a solo homer to centerfield by J. Yesso in the top of the second, making it 1-0. They pushed their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third, capitalizing on a Lady Bears fielding error.
The Lady Bears responded with a run in the bottom of the third. Raievah Craddock reached base on a fielder's choice, while Lindsey Hudson and Kinley Meche loaded the bases with walks. Craddock scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Bengals added two more runs in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 5-1. They scored three runs in the fifth, pushing the game to 8-1. However, the Lady Bears continued to fight back and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the gap to 8-3. Raievah Craddock singled to left field, and Lindsey Hudson followed with a single to right, bringing Craddock home. Jardyn Wheeler added to the score with a single that drove Hudson in.
The Lady Bears scraped together another run in the sixth inning, bringing the score to 8-4. Karley Chaney reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Landrum. In the seventh, the Lady Bears fought to the end, scoring another run, but ultimately fell 8-5. Lindsey Hudson walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Jardyn Wheeler.
Madelyn Nolen started for the Lady Bears and took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Kailey Dwyer pitched 3.1 innings in relief. E. Savage started for the Lady Bengals and earned the win, pitching 4 innings without allowing any earned runs on 2 hits and recording 4 strikeouts. A. Miller and M. Galvan provided relief for the Bengals.
LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 14 to 6, and the Lady Bears committed three errors compared to one for the Lady Bengals.
Lady Bears Highlights:
- Raievah Craddock: 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 walk
- Lindsey Hudson: 1 for 2 with 2 runs, 1 RBI, and 2 walks
- Jardyn Wheeler: 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs
- Laine Eschette: 1 for 4
- Lauren Landrum: 1 RBI
With these two losses, the Lady Bears ended their season with a record of 16-34, while the Lady Bengals improved to 34-13. LSUE leads the all-time series with 63 wins to 3 losses against Baton Rouge.
Next Up:
The Lady Bears were scheduled to close out their season on Thursday, April 23, at Lamar Port Arthur, but those games have been canceled due to scheduling issues with the Seahawks.
